What is UTN ?

UTN stone veneer is made from a thin layer of stone stripped or peeled from a metamorphic stone slab, rather than cutting from a solid stone or precast composite material. Thin veneers (from .5mm to 2mm thick) of slate or quartz are pulled away from the original thicker stone slabs by adhering a thin layer of fiberglass/polyester resin composite backing. There is no grinding of the surface to make it thinner. When the resins cure the composite is “pulled” or “stripped” away taking with it the thin layer of stone. This process only works with layered rock and not with granite or marble.

UTN is available with three different backings - UTN Prime stone with fiberglass backing, UTN Flex Stone with fabric backing and UTN iLumi Stone with translucent backing.

UTN Prime Stone - Fiberglass backing

UTN Prime stone veneer is natural thin stone laminated to a fiberglass/polyester resin substrate. UTN Stone has a natural stone surface layer, which acts as a UV light or UV ray protector and will resist high sun conditions for years. When glued to a sub-straight UTN Stone veneer will handle high thermal contraction and/or expansion of most standard construction materials. UTN Stone veneer will handle both high temperature and freezing without cracking.

UTN Flex Stone - Fabric backing

UTN Flex Stone comes with a fleece backer reinforced with water-jet hardened fabric without any chemical binding agents. As light as feather and with bending abilities it is a dream to work with on interior usages, especially areas with curves and furniture. Despite its unbelievable thinness UTN Flex Stone Veneer still has a three dimensional accentuation and feel, graining, and variances of color hues.

UTN iLumi Stone - Translucent Backing

We call it iLumi Stone because our exceptional innovation has created a real stone veneer that is translucent. Its natural beauty can be transformed with back lighting into a thing of genuine, breathtaking splendor. The transparent backing allows light through illuminating and enhancing the sheer beauty of its real stone colors, adding luster and a magnificent gleam, yet with the amazing texture and depth of surface which comes only from real stone.
